2006 picked up where 2005 left off but with no secure funding in place it was hard to plan. This did not deter the group however, who began on a major devising performance piece which became "The End of the Age of Oil" Looking back from November 2006 to the January of that year, no one could have expected the year we had!
Council funding was once again achieved in April for "Speak Out Too" which meant it was possible for ABC to continue the advocacy work, delivering training workshops to Social Work students, but the focus of the year became developing a devised play on the theme of wasting the earth's resources. The plan was to tour the play, but a change of circumstances presented other opportunities....
In June 2006 ABC were on the move again. This time they secured rental of Locharbriggs Village Hall. Some of the group were nervous about moving out of the centre of Dumfries and there were the usual problems of transport and getting others to appreciate how important it is for members to attend sessions regularly. However, teething problems over and it was decided to have a "reverse" tour, inviting people from all over the region to Locharbriggs to experience "The End of the Age of Oil" The reverse tour started in September with a launch for supporters and friends and Cally managed to secure a wonderful finale - hosted by Green Party/Labour Party, ABC performed at the Scottish Parliament on St Andrews Day. This was the culmination of a lot of hard, hard work and dedication and despite many and varied problems at both committee level and amongst the membership, another success could be credited.
2006 was a year of change and some unrest. Several of the original committee members had to step down and more helpers and advisors came on board, but Larry and Marlene carried on with their sterling work. Even though Cally moved out of the region, she continued to come down and take sessions and the group was lucky to add Mary Bell to the cohort of dedicated workers - to take care of music and art - which made The End of the Age of Oil possible. As everyone took a welcome end of year break, it was time to consider what would happen next...
