2009 NEW BEGINNINGS

This year ABC received three year funding from the council which offered more security, but also more challenges.

Performance wise ABC have been out and about as usual. In April ABC performed "Are You Listening?" at the NHS "Improving Services to you" conference at Easterbrook Hall. In May they entertained AccessAll group. Also in May we said farewell to valued member Karent Brownlie who has emigrated to Canada with her family. We wish them all the best.

In July, Cally Phillips was with us for a day to launch DRAMA MADE EASY with ABC.This handbook was supported by two training days, with interest across the region in taking the ABC template and adapting it to suit other groups. The council service specification adpoted in August dictated that this project could not be considered a core activity so other funding was applied for (but not achieved) which somewhat compromised the project. However, more people now have access to our methods and are making the most of it with whatever help and support we can offer.

ABC worked throughout the year on a Homecoming inspired piece entitled: "From Bleakwood House to High Expectations". Val Horton has begun to cut her teeth with the group as facilitator on this project. Everyone is enjoying the new relationships. Members also took part in the community dance event for Homecoming in November, and after working with Nicola Black, recorded a Music CD called "Songs We Love To Sing" This CD was launched at the Xmas party and is available for sale at £5. (Contact marleneross@btinternet.com for details)

Touring was the primary core activity required by the Council specification but due to all the other things going on, it didn't start in earnest until November so the winter has been very busy with performances of our Lucky Dip booked in Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright, Newton Stewart, Stranraer and Annan as well as in Dumfries.
